The artist on the piece: “This piece was an experiment in line. I kept trying new lines, wouldn't like them and would cover them up until an interesting shape emerged from the reduction. The pink brush stroke softens the start black lines on white.”

“Over the past ten years I have been exploring abstract painting. Without a reference point or image I begin with a shape or a brush stroke and build layers slowly, adding or taking away, until a balance in composition is achieved.
As my abstract style evolves I find myself more and more drawn to the impact made by a few large brush strokes--the lines of the bristles being highlighted by thinning the paint. Using a limited palette helps me to focus completely on line and texture, and I am always inspired by a bold black shape on white.
