Aimee Wissman

Wissman is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist and the co-founder of the Returning Artists Guild, a group of directly-impacted artists working together to end mass incarceration and build a free future for everyone.

Wissman’s work is directly inspired by her lived experiences of incarceration, addiction, abuse, and childhood trauma. These experiences become points of intersectionality between social and political movements, communities of people, institutions, and architecture. The intersections foster transformation, reflection, and respite for the artist. The creative process and the practice of making artwork keeps Wissman thriving as a entrepreneur and single mother. Wissman describes her practice as a “life jacket in life’s ceaseless hurricane season.”
